Mayze

This week, Vegan Bites Glasgow visited Mayze in Finnieston. The wee café, recommended to me, has both vegetarian and vegan options. All of which look delicious.

The café was nice and busy on the Saturday afternoon I visited and though there wasn't an abundance of seating, they offer their food for takeaway for those fancying a yummy meal in the comfort of there own space.

Food-wise they offer breakfast and lunch options, with classic breakfast rolls, croissants and most excitingly, to me, sausage rolls. I did not try these but they looked so delicious they deserve a special mention, with options of haggis; steak and black pudding; and caramelised onion. Something to definitely go back for!

I went for one of their creative toasties. While there were only four variations on the blackboard menu, all look very tempting and the choice is not as simple as you might think. I assume this also means that the menu is not set, and more options can be expected at other times. My toastie of choice, the "Ralf' includes Philly cheese, steak with crispy onion, roast peppers and sun-dried tomatoes. A proper, chunky bread, toastie. With vegan cheese offered as an alternative, it was vegan safe, flavoursome and 'meaty'. A tasty surprise from a technically meat-less sandwich. My friend had the "Reuben", with veggie pastrami, mustard, mayo, sauerkraut and pickles. This also went down a treat.

As for pudding, there were quite a few options of cakes and biscuits - the Oreo loaf looked particularly appealing. However, we both ended up trying their biscoff shortbread and it earned a big thumbs up from both of us. Admittedly I had tried a particularly tasty non-vegan one of these the week before and this was not a bad alternative by any means, I even went back for more.

Overall, a great wee spot, good value for money and a solid 10/10.
