The Glasgvegan is a cracking café located right in Glasgow's city centre within St Enoch Square. The eatery describes itself as a vegan fast food joint which means that they have all the foods that we vegans have desperately missed!
Usually when eating out options are limited to perhaps one thing on the menu or worse the awkward "can I have this?" followed by the further request to remove half of the dish's contents, complimented by an awkward smile as if to say, "I know, I'm annoying". So coming to a place like this where everything is vegan and the menu is full of meals that have been missing from my life for quite some time, the amount of options was overwhelming in the best way possible.
The café itself is very cute (good for the ol' Instagram story) with indoor and outdoor seating options for those of us who have a preference or for those who perhaps feel more comfortable dining outside given the dreaded coronavirus situation we find ourselves in. The staff are very friendly and easy going. To sum it up: its good vibes.
The menu has well named burgers, such as the "Sweet Home Avocado" and the "Pickle My Funny Bone". It also offers "Donner Vebabs, "Not-Dogs", sandwiches and so much more. The need to try everything on the menu was hard to fight but eventually I settled upon the "Mac and Cheez" with the "Bakon" and of course, garlic bread on the side. It was delicious!
Choosing a dish in a vegan restaurant where the main flavour is supposed to be cheese was a bold move, but it paid off well. The fake bacon mixed through was *chefs kiss* the cherry on top. I also sampled a vegan classic, avocado toast, on the side which was equally lovely.
My partner in crime for this taste test, Katie is not vegan and found the vegan-ness of it all to be a bit too overwhelming in a less positive way. She did, however, manage to try an Oreo cupcake from the cafés cake selection which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall, I had a great experience in the Glasvegan and would totally recommend it. The vibe was comfortable and casual, the menu options were immense and brilliantly named and the food itself was extremely tasty, 10/10.
